About GSC
Welcome To Garston Swimming Club
Founded in 1908 Garston swimming club has been an integral part of the community for over 100 years and has been one of the oldest & most successful swimming clubs in south Liverpool.
Over the years, Garston Swimming Club has produced a stream of accomplished swimmers who have excelled at local, national, and even international levels. Our training programs, led by experienced coaches, focus not only on skill development but also on instilling values of discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Historical Information on past swimmers and notable members of the Garston Swimming Club
Simon Rothwell - Current club president. Was Swim England president in 2013. Represents Swim England at various international events, and is a life member of Swim England / North West
Austin Rawlinson - A life long founding member of Garston Swimming Club. Was president of the ASA in 1968. Austin swam 100metres backstroke in the 1924 Olympics in Paris. He introduced the alternating arm backstroke to Europe and Britain in 1915. Champion of England 5 times between 1921 and 1926 (100+ years ago) A former police officer - he retired and was awarded and OBE in 1961 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
1920 Olympics In Antwerp - Garston swimmers were involved in the 4 x 100 metres freestyle. Grace McKenzie; Hilda James; Charlotte Radcliffe - winning a silver medal. Lillian Birkenhead swam in other races.
